WHAT ARE PÂTES DE FRUITS?
Fruit paste sweets are perhaps better known by the French name ‘pâtes de fruits’. This jelly-like, soft and chewy fruit candy has a high fruit content, a rich fruit flavour and a soft but firm texture. The sweets are traditionally made from a combination of fruit pulp, sugar and pectin, a natural thickener found in many fruits.
THE ORIGIN OF PÂTES DE FRUITS
The origin of pâtes de fruits is not fully known. They are believed to have originated in the 10th century in Auvergne, a historic region in central France. Freshly picked fruit may have been sugared by locals at the time to preserve it longer.
Over the centuries, pâtes de fruits naturally evolved and became the tasty, sugared fruit candy we know today.

The traditional square fruit cubes are probably the best known, but fruit slices or other fruit shapes are also gaining popularity.
